Alcohol Industry Frantically Lobbies Against Legal Weed as Beer Sales Predict $2 Billion Drop

Image
By:Jack Burns Some new cannabis statistics are undoubtedly causing the alcohol industry in the US to shake in their boots. With over half of the country’s states embracing some form of legalized marijuana, with a few states even permitting recreational use, cannabis is poised to affect the alcohol industry at some point. And according to a new study, the beer industry stands to lose billions if marijuana is legalized nationwide. The study states , “Cannabiz Consumer Group’s (C2G) research findings predict that legal marijuana will “canna-balize” 7.1% of revenues from the existing retail beer industry.” Even though the revenue margin may seem small to some, the profit losses are predicted to exceed 2 billion dollars. And while the research attempts to predict what will happen when and if weed is legal nationwide, many alcohol consumers are already making the switch over to marijuana. The study writes, “Twenty-seven percent (27%) of beer drinkers st...

Children with severe epilepsy chosen as first patients to legally receive medicinal cannabis in Victoria

Image
A group of 29 critically ill children have been chosen as the first patients to legally access medicinal cannabis in Victoria. The Andrews Government purchased the cannabidiol liquid from Canada  after changes to federal laws last year. The children all have severe intractable epilepsy and have multiple daily seizures. Victorian Health Minister Jill Hennessy said the children were nominated by paediatric neurologists to receive the treatment and then assessed by a clinical panel. "We know this medicine can dramatically change the quality of life for some of Victoria's very sick kids," she said. "This means families will no longer have to make the heartbreaking choice between breaking the law or watching their kids suffer." Ms Hennessy said the cost to the Government over a 12-month period would be about $1 million. "We know this medicine can dramatically change the quality of life for some of Victoria's very sick kids,...

Archaeologists in Central Asia even found over 2 pounds of cannabis in a 2,700-year-old grave of a shaman. Written and pictorial evidence of cannabis use is scattered throughout numerous cultures indicating a wide acceptance and use of the plant for thousands of years. Federal prohibitions outlawing the therapeutic and recreational use of cannabis were first imposed by Congress with the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937. Later, the plant’s organic compounds (cannabinoids) were classified as a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970. This classification puts the plant in ...

Could cannabis cure Alzheimer's? Drug's active ingredient 'helps remove key toxic protein from brain cells'

Image
Active ingredient of cannabis, THC, helps remove amyloid beta from cells Amyloid beta protein is main component of plaques that cause Alzheimer's Plaques are widely considered a hallmark of the common form of dementia But scientists have not known the precise role of amyloid beta or plaques Now believe the protein causes inflammation which kills nerve cells By exposing nerve cells to THC, scientists able to eliminate inflammation Hopes the discovery could result in new treatments to combat the disease  A number of compounds found in cannabis could prove effective as a treatment for Alzheimer's disease, experts suggest. Early findings show tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) - the key mind-altering element of the drug - promote the removal of amyloid beta from the brain. Swedish patients given cannabis for chronic pain

Image
Two patients in Sweden have been granted the right to use parts of cannabis plants to relieve chronic pain - the first time the drug has been prescribed for such use. But Karl Mikael Kälkner of the Swedish Läkemedelsverket (Medical Products Agency, MPA), told news agency TT that the decision was "not an approval of the use of cannabis in general". The decision was made in relation to two patients with back injuries, after doctors applied to the MPA for a license to prescribe cannabis for their pain, reports broadcaster SVT. "I am happy that the MPA has taken the pragmatic step of making [cannabis] available for patients with chronic pain which no approved drug can relieve," Fredrik von Kieseritzky, doctor of organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry, who advised the doctors involved with the two patients, told TT. Licensing regulations mean that permission to prescribe must be applied for with each individual patient. The two approved pat...

New Cannabis Patch To Treat Fibromyalgia And Diabetic Nerve Pain Revealed

Image
A company specializing in the use of cannabis as a medication has created a patch that can treat diabetic nerve pain and fibromyalgia symptoms. These patches are adhesive patches stuck on the skin which work by releasing chemicals that fight off neurological nerve pain related to fibromyalgia and diabetes. The patch enables control of the doses on a daily basis and there have been no side effects discovered until now. CBD has pain relieving and anti-inflammatory characteristics and has very few side effects, including the hallucinogenic effects associated with THC. Around 10% of the population suffers from fibromyalgia whereas a large number of sufferers have not been di...

DERRY MAN ESCAPES GOING TO JAIL AFTER TELLING JUDGE CANNABIS GROW-HOUSE FOR HIS SICK SON

Image
A DERRY man has avoided going to jail after telling a Judge that a cannabis grow-house which Gardai found him in charge of in Donegal was to help his ill son. Christopher McDaid was found in possession of the drugs when Gardai raided a house in Carrigans in October, 2015. But the father-of-one, aged 33, said he was growing the plants so he could treat his son who had a rare genetic disorder. McDaid appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled drug and cultivation of cannabis without a license at The Haw, Churchtown, Carrigans on October 23, 2015. The accused man’s legal team argued that he was growing the cannabis because he believed it could ease the symptoms of a rare disorder his son suffers from. McDaid, of 41 Farmhill, Foylesprings, had carried out research into treatments for his ten-year-old son who suffers from Ataxia-Telangiectasia (AT), a rare, neurodegenerative disorder fo...

Fibromyalgia: Pain Management with Cannabis proved superior than Big Pharma Drugs

Image
Being diagnosed with fibromyalgia means that you can say goodbye to any semblance of a normal life. It is a serious debilitating condition characterized by constant muscle pain and fatigue, symptoms which are usually accompanied by headaches, difficulty sleeping, and widespread joint pains. Because of the severity of the condition, people with fibromyalgia also tend to suffer from anxiety and depression.  If you spend most of your days dealing with extreme pain and fatigue, you just won’t have the energy to do things you enjoy. The fatigue can be so debilitating that for many patients still feel tired even after sleeping 10 hours a night. That’s if they’re lucky: many patients suffer so much from fibromyalgia symptoms that falling and staying asleep becomes difficult. The exact cause of fibromyalgia remains unknown, although the medical community agrees that it could be because of several factors including genetics, infection, or physical and emotional trauma. People ...

How Magnesium levels in your body affect the quality of your Cannabis high

Image
I have been doing some research lately, and have come to the opinion that magnesium levels in the body can have a profound impact on the quality of the high from Cannabis. If you are a healthy person with good levels of magnesium in your body, your high is optimised due to the fine tuning Magnesium gives to your nerves and cannabinoid receptors. A lot of cannabis users may not have good magnesium levels, due to poor diet or ill health, and they will often find the zing has gone out of their high. I have added a rewiew on Magnesium in the human body for you to read. MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE For Health and Rejuvenation: Magnesium is nothing short of a miracle mineral in its healing effect on a wide range of diseases as well as in its ability to rejuvenate the aging body.
