What Is Menopause and Causes and Conditions? How Does Natural Menopause Happen?

Image
Menopause is a normal condition that all women experience as they age. The term "menopause" can describe any of the changes a woman goes through either just before or after she stops menstruating, marking the end of her reproductive period. What Causes Menopause? A woman is born with a finite number of eggs, which are stored in the ovaries. The ovaries also make the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which control menstruation and ovulation. Menopause happens when the ovaries no longer release an egg every month and menstruation stops. Menopause is considered a normal part of aging when it happens after the age of 40. But some women can go through menopause early, either as a result of surgery, such as hysterectomy, or damage to the ovaries, such as from chemotherapy. Menopause that happens before 40, regardless of the cause, is called premature menopause. How Does Natural Menopause Happen? Natural menopause is not brought on by any type of medical or surgi...

It’s Not Me, It’s Depression With My Face

Image
Mental Health issues are renowned as being a health problem, that along with piles or a pus-squirting willy, people don’t talk about. I had always resolved to do anything I could, no matter how small, to change that. So in that spirit I will declare on social media that this year I have been suffering from depression. Before I go further I should say I’m getting much better now, thank you. Like most men I took a long time to realise I had a problem and then seek help. Being a doctor did not make me any quicker in this. If you’ve not had any experience of depression be it professionally, personally or through close family and friends, I think it is very hard to understand completely its effects. You really are not you. Your actions, thoughts and behaviour are not some deep truths bubbling to the surface. They are genuinely, at least for me, completely alien. Depression is also not consistent in its relationship with someone. So to those of you that have encountered me d...

Migraine Headaches And Cannabis Treatment

Image
More than 37 million Americans suffer from migraines, with around 3 million of these being chronic cases.  Sometimes the pain from migraines can be so debilitating that it can be impossible to get anything done.  Aside from severe headaches, extreme migraines are also usually accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Pharmaceutical medications are prescribed to prevent and treat migraines although these come with side effects that include drowsiness, dizziness, muscle weakness, weight gain, constipation, dry mouths, and addiction to name a few. Many people who suffer from migraines also don’t find any relief from pharmaceutical medications being prescribed to them. However, cannabis is an excellent natural alternative for migraine sufferers and doesn’t pose any health risks. A recent study earlier this year conducted by the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Colorado analyzed how both ingested and inhaled cannabis affected 121 par...

ummary: Researchers explain some of the main symptoms of epilepsy and debunk common misconceptions about the condition. Source: Drexel University. Though it’s the fourth most common neurological disease in the United States — affecting 1 in 26 people — epilepsy is also one of the most stigmatized. Hear the word “seizure,” and you might picture a dramatic scene: A person’s eyes roll to the back of the head as he or she shakes fiercely on the ground, reacting to a sea of strobe lights.  But some seizures may appear as subtle as a drooling mouth or a blank stare. Others could go completely unnoticed, according to Carla LoPinto-Khoury, MD, a neurologist and assistant professor at Drexel University College of Medicine. “Seizures can look very different,” she explained. One patient may have an episode every two years, while another could have two per day. Occasionally seizures begin in childhood and go away later in life. But often they persist, and in some cases begin, in l...

This Disease is Stealing My Life

Image
By:Sean Adams I write about everything and nothing. I’m sitting here tonight having just bitten my Wife’s head off, the dogs are avoiding me because of getting shouted at earlier, and I know I’ve managed to piss my daughter off at me at least once. There’s this monster that lives in me, feeds off of me, and has left me unable to move past it. I take medication for it but they are self defeating in their own right.   Insulin is a fat storing hormone. Obesity has been proven to contribute to to type 2 diabetes, and the results are clear on my own testing that the more I weigh, the less in control of my blood sugar I am. I take two other medications for it as well which each have the ‘fun’ side effect of causing drowsiness. Adding to this is a deep depression that I also medicate, that medication of course also causes fatigue. About seven years ago I went in for a sleep study, this was prior to the diabetes diagnosis, and was told I have sleep apnea. This began a long tort...
